International
Women Fly Fishers is the first and only international women’s fly fishing
organization. Founded in 1996 by Fanny Krieger and the Golden West
Flyfishers of San Francisco, CA, the IWFF is a non-profit organization that
has grown to over 300 women members - and a few very supportive men.
Our Mission Statement: The International Women Fly Fishers connects women
interested in fly fishing with all aspects of the sport, maintains a dialog
with the fly fishing industry and publicizes the achievements of women in
the field of fly fishing.
Our goal is to be the major information resource and the paramount voice for
women fly fishers. To achieve this, the International Women Fly Fishers
publishes a quarterly newsletter full of information and stories. Our
website provides online support for women’s fly fishing clubs, and updated
information on many aspects of fly fishing of interest to women. IWFFTalk (IWFFTalk@topica.com) is
a managed online chat facility for communicating with women fly fishers
around the world. We hold regional Rendezvous’ where women fly fishers can
meet others beyond their home area, learn to fish new waters, and make new
fishing-based friendships. We list over 40 women’s fly fishing clubs around
the world with contact information, and updated club activities. We maintain
a growing list of women fly fishing guides and business owners.
Our main annual event is our fall Festival: for three days, fly fishing
women gather from across the country and around the world to fish together,
hear famous fly fishers speak on their favorite topics, learn about new
equipment, have hands-on sessions to improve skills in casting, fishing
techniques, fly tying, and learn even more about all things fly fishing.
Each year we gather to make new friends and visit old ones, share a banquet
dinner and celebrate each other and the sport we love.
Festivals are held in wonderful locations where your entire family is
welcomed.
So far, we have met on both coasts and in between - from Baja California,
Mexico and San Francisco; to Sun Valley, Idaho; Stratton, Vermont; Stuart,
Florida; back west to San Diego, CA; to South Padre Island, Texas and the
Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. In 2005, we met at Squaw Valley Resort
near Lake Tahoe, CA, for our 10th Anniversary celebration, 2006 was held on
Martha's Vineyard. The up coming
2007 Festival will be held October 4 - 7 at the Homestead Resort in Midway,
Utah.
For more information, see our
Festivals’ page.
Annual dues are $25 discounted to $15.00 for those 18 and younger. As a
member, you’ll receive the news letter and a membership roster which you
will find useful in networking fishing and club information.
If you are
thinking of starting a women’s fly-fishing club - or your club is having
growing pains - we can help by putting you in contact with others who have
been there. In sum: we are dedicated to helping women enjoy the wonderful
sport of fly fishing.
