In-School Aquatics: A New Project for IWFF
By Fanny Krieger, Conservation Committee Chairperson

At the 2000 annual meeting, the International Women Fly Fishers Board of Directors voted to adopt the Urban In-School Aquatics project as an international program. It is a project which is already in place with various fly fishing clubs in the United States. It will be adapted from the In-School Aquatics program started by the Golden West Women Flyfishers in 1990. The program involves low-income, urban classrooms, where children adopt a stream, clean it, watch over it, and raise and release native fish. We provide equipment, spawn and eggs, and help train teachers and children in conjunction with the Fish and Game Department. The In-School Aquatics program helps children realize the importance of clean, healthy waterways and develop a respect for creatures that depend on these waterways for life.

Casting for Recovery

Casting For Recovery (CFR) is a not-for-profit, national organization that conducts retreats around the country  in beautiful, natural settings where women who are recovering from breast cancer learn to fly fish.  It is an activity which helps reduce swelling and restores mobility which may have been compromised by surgery.  The goal of   CFR is to aid in physical, emotional and
spiritual healing.

The International Women Flyfishers supports Casting For Recovery through monetary contributions and information dissemination.
