President’s Message for Winter 2007

thepresA.jpg (24214 bytes)

Greetings:

The Festival has come and gone and it was as good as it gets.  Kit did a fabulous job of organizing a well oiled Festival, with lots of instruction, casting sessions, fun events, great location, very good fishing for most of us.  Even the weather cooperated most of the time.  Those of you who did or could not make it to Midway, Utah missed an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones and have a great time.

The next Festival will take place in Branson, Missouri, October 2008.  Carolyn Parker and Moirajeanne Fitzgerald the co-chairs are giving you more particulars about the event.  Start planning now, save your money, look for special airfare deals and mark your calendar.

The business part of the Festival was very productive.  We have a new board:

Marla Blair, Rebecca Blair (our new membership chair), Judith Austin Brown (our new Vice-President), Moirajeanne Fitzgerald, Yvonne Graham, Fanny Krieger, Karen Kukolich, Pat Magnuson (our new Secretary), Carolyn Parker and Nancy Zakon. Their positions on the board and their email addresses are listed at the end of this newsletter.  Feel free to share with any of us your concerns, comments, suggestions and positive feedback.  We want to hear from you. Be involved.

We have a very ambitious IWFF promotional campaign planned and all of you are recruited to make it happen.  We want the World of Women Fly Fishers to take notice of IWFF and join us.  If you have ideas, talents, connections, please contact one of us.  The growth of IWFF depends on all of us. We have a contest to create hopefully a very powerful ad for publication in local clubs newsletters and regional  fly fishing magazines to promote IWFF.

Our motto this year is “Make the Connection”.

We have also instituted a new “Advisory Council” consisting of past board members: Anna Minicucci, Jodi Pate, Kit Mullen, Ellen King, Pudge Kleinkauf, Sheila Hassan and Ann Bound.  These members have been elected to this board for a period of 2 years.  They will be most valuable in their advice to the board.

We also have now a new “Honorary Board” where well known and active IWFF participants are listed:  Joan Wulff, Maggie Merriman, Joanne Whitlock

You will read all about the Rendezvous program and the excitement generated at the Festival for new Rendezvous locations.  Don’t be shy, jump in and volunteer to have a Rendezvous in your area.  It is a great way to connect with Women Fly Fishers who live in a radius of some 200 miles from where you are and spend a fun weekend fishing and making the connection.

Everyone is special, has ideas, energy and talent.  So share that with me and let me hear from you.

Your board has committed to do many things to make IWFF an outstanding women’s organization.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Fanny fannykrieger@mac.com.

We are planning a “mentor” program at Festivals and Rendezvous.

Marla Blair is in charge of setting up a new casting program with IWFF members who are casting instructors.  These one-day casting sessions will take place all over the States and be available at a very reasonable fee. Feel free to volunteer.

We also have for sale IWFF pins, IWFF bags and will have much more.  Check our website for prices and more information.

We have a IWFF booth at most of The Fishing Shows, East and West.  Please volunteer to be at the booth to represent IWFF. It is a lot of fun and you will meet some of the fly fishing luminaries.
